Australia and the Australian Tax System
The Australian tax system is a complex system based on a number of acts. Income tax is a responsibility of the Commonwealth and is contained in the Income Tax Assessment Acts of 1936 and 1997. The 1997 Act is a greadual rewrite of the 1936 Act which has been taking place over more than a decade.
